Special notes: |
Draw blood in plain red-top (nonserum separator), pink or lavender K2 EDTA tubes. Serum separator tubes are NOT acceptable. Please specify on the request form the patient's age (required for processing). Include information about treatment, family history, and tentative diagnosis. | |
Patient preparation: |
Overnight fasting (12-14 hours) required. Patient must not consume any alcohol for 24 hours before specimen collection. Pediatric patients only: fasting not required, but collection should occur prior to meal or feeding. | |

Specimen processing instructions: |
Allow serum to clot. Centrifuge serum or plasma 10 minutes at 3000 rpm. Aliquot to freeze. | |

Room Temperature: Unacceptable. Refrigerated: 7 days. Frozen: 28 days. | |
Rejection criteria: |
Gross hemolysis. Lipemia. Icteric samples. Collection in Serum Separator Tube (SST®). Received room temperature. | |
