Jianhui Shi, MD, PhD
Dr. Shi is a developmental scientist at the Weis Center for Research/Department of Laboratory Medicine on the campus of Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Pennsylvanlia. She received her M.D. from Zhejiang University School of Medicine, People’s Republic of China, and her Ph.D. from Fudan University, People’s Republic of China. She completed fellowship training at the Department of Hematology, the First Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine.
Currently Dr. Shi is working on several cancer-related projects. One of the important studies is the identification of S100P and von Hipple-Lindau gene products (pVHL) as a pair of diagnostic markers for detection of adenocarcinoma of the pancreas. Researchers identified this pair of highly sensitive and specific markers (S100P and pVHL) for the detection of adenocarcinoma of the pancreas in FNA and small biopsy samples, including the most well-differentiated and hard-to-diagnose cancers. More recently, they have developed a creative new approach to search for premalignant lesions or so-called squamous intraepithelial lesions (SIL) in cervical specimens.
