Allow serum to clot. Centrifuge to separate serum or plasma within 2 hours of collection.

 Refrigerated (preferred) or frozen.
Specimen stability:
 Room temperature: 2 days. Refrigerated: 10 days. Frozen: 3 months.

 Stability limits exceeded.

In conjunction with high density lipoprotein and total serum cholesterol, a triglyceride determination provides valuable information for the assessment of coronary heart disease risk.
