SPECIMEN COLLECTION
Specimen type: 

Serum (preferred) or plasma


Preferred collection container: 
Alternate collection container: 
3 mL green/black top lithium heparin tube
3 mL lavender-top (K2 EDTA) tube
4 mL green/green-top (sodium heparin) tube
Specimen required: 

1 mL aliquot of serum or plasma; minimum 0.25 mL.


Special notes: 

Serum separator tube unacceptable. Early morning specimen is preferred.



SPECIMEN PROCESSING
Processing instructions: 

Allow to clot. Centrifuge 10 minutes at 3000 rpm


Transport temperature: 

Refrigerated, frozen.


Specimen stability: 

Room temperature: 3 days. Refrigerated: 4 weeks. Frozen: 2 years.


Rejection criteria: 

Serum separator tubes unacceptable. Submission in glass tube unacceptable.
