SPECIMEN COLLECTION
Specimen type: 

Conjunctival scraping


Preferred collection container: 
Specimen required: 

Specimen submitted fresh or in RPMI for infectious evaluation, preferred.  

Label glass slide(s) with 2 patient identifiers and directly smear specimen on to slide(s), allow to air dry. Acceptable, but not preferred.


Special notes: 

Scrape area of abnormality. Submit scrapings.



SPECIMEN PROCESSING
Transport temperature: 

Room temperature.


Rejection criteria: 

Inadequate patient identifiers on specimen, unlabeled specimen, discrepancy between patient specimen and requisition information, improper collection.
