SPECIMEN COLLECTION
Specimen type: 

Serum or plasma


Preferred collection container: 
Alternate collection container: 
4 mL grey-top (Na fluoride/K oxalate) tube
Specimen required: 

10 mL aliquot of serum; minimum 5 mL.


Special notes: 

Collect THREE red-top, non-serum-separator tubes. Do NOT use serum-separator tubes OR collect FOUR 4 mL gray-top (Na fluoride/K oxalate) tubes.



SPECIMEN PROCESSING
Processing instructions: 

Allow serum to clot. Centrifuge and aliquot serum or plasm.


Transport temperature: 

Frozen


Specimen stability: 

Serum: Room temperature: Unacceptable. Refrigerated: Unacceptable. Frozen: 30 days. 
Plasma: Room temperature: 24 hours. Refrigerated: 7 days. Frozen: 30 days.


Rejection criteria: 

Serum received room temperature or refrigerated: Stability limits exceeded. Specimen collected in serum-separator tubes.
