Positive RNP, U1 RNP (RNP70, A, C) and SM antibodies can be used in conjunction with clinical findings and other laboratory tests to aid in the diagnosis of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and other related connective tissue diseases. SM antibodies are highly specific for SLE and are detected in approximately 15% of patients with SLE.
