SPECIMEN COLLECTION

Serum or plasma


Preferred collection container: 
Alternate collection container: 
3 mL lavender-top (K2 EDTA) tube
Specimen required: 

2 mL aliquot serum or plasma; minimum 0.7 mL


Special notes: 

Serum separator tubes not acceptable.



SPECIMEN PROCESSING
Processing instructions: 

Centrifuge and transfer serum or plasma specimens to clean, plastic, screw-capped vial(s).


Transport temperature: 

Refrigerated (preferred). Frozen specimen also acceptable.


Specimen stability: 

Room Temperature: 48 hours. Refrigerated: 14 days. Frozen: 1 year (-20°C).


Rejection criteria: 

Received room temperature. Serum separator tubes are unacceptable.
