SPECIMEN COLLECTION
Specimen type: 

24-hour urine


Preferred collection container: 
Alternate collection container: 
24-hour urine container (6N HCl added)
Specimen required: 

5 mL aliquot of 24-hour urine, as above; minimum 2 mL.


Special notes: 

Mix well. Estimate total collection volume from 24-hour urine container. Remove required aliquot. Record total volume on both aliquot tube and request slip (if applicable). Wrap container in aluminum foil to protect from light.



SPECIMEN PROCESSING
Processing instructions: 

Wrap container in aluminum foil to protect from light.


Transport temperature: 

Refrigerated (preferred) or frozen.


Specimen stability: 

Refrigerated: 7 days. Frozen: 1 month.


Rejection criteria: 

Stability limits exceeded. Specimens not protected from light.
