SPECIMEN COLLECTION
Specimen type: 

Serum (preferred) or plasma.


Preferred collection container: 
Alternate collection container: 
3 mL green/black top lithium heparin tube
3 mL lavender-top (K2 EDTA) tube
4 mL green/green-top (sodium heparin) tube
Specimen required: 

3 mL aliquot of serum or plasma; minimum 1.5 mL.


Special notes: 

Serum separator tubes are not acceptable.


Patient preparation: 

Collect at steady-state trough concentration. Specimen should be collected >12 hours after dose



SPECIMEN PROCESSING
Processing instructions: 

Allow serum to clot. Centrifuge serum or plasma 10 minutes at 3000 rpm.


Transport temperature: 

Frozen (preferred). Room temperature or referigerated specimen also acceptable.


Specimen stability: 

Room Temperature: 8 hours. Refrigerated: 5 days. Frozen: 30 days(-20°C).


Rejection criteria: 

Gross hemolysis. Stability limits exceeded. Specimen collected in serum separator tube.
