SPECIMEN COLLECTION
Specimen type: 

Serum (preferred) or plasma


Preferred collection container: 
Alternate collection container: 
3 mL lavender-top (K2 EDTA) tube
Specimen required: 

1 mL aliquot of plasma or serum; minimum 0.5 mL.


Special notes: 

Do not use gel barrier tubes.


Patient preparation: 

Optimum time to collect sample: 1 hour before next dose.



SPECIMEN PROCESSING
Processing instructions: 

Centrifuge and immediately separate serum or plasma specimens from the cells into clean, plastic, screw-capped vial(s).


Transport temperature: 

Refrigerated (preferred). Room temperature (stable 3 days) or frozen specimen also acceptable.


Specimen stability: 

Room Temperature: 3 days. Refrigerated: 5 days. Frozen: 1 month.


Rejection criteria: 

Specimen collected in gel barrier tube.

Reference interval: 

Trough 30-50 mcg/mL at steady-state.
