5 mL aliquot urine; minimum 2 mL.

First morning specimen is preferred.

Interpretation guide: 

Detects the presence of hCG at a sensitivity of 20 mIU/mL in urine. Positive result consistent with pregnancy.

Clinical significance: 

Rapid qualitative detection of hCG in urine for early detecttion of pregnancy. Low level of HCG can be detected in urine as early as week after conception. Potential false negative is possible (hCG level is too low or hook effect as hCG fragment level becomes too high). Serum hCG testing is recommended.
