SPECIMEN COLLECTION
Specimen type: 

Serum.


Preferred collection container: 
Specimen required: 

1 mL aliquot serum; minimum 0.5 mL.


Special notes: 

3.5 mL gold-top (serum separator) is only acceptable tube type.


Patient preparation: 

Overnight fasting specimen is required. 



SPECIMEN PROCESSING
Processing instructions: 

Centrifuge and immediately separate serum specimens from the cells into clean, plastic, screw-capped vial(s).


Transport temperature: 

Refrigerated (preferred) or frozen.


Specimen stability: 

Room temperature: 4 days. Refrigerated: 14 days. Frozen: 28 days.


Rejection criteria: 

Grossly lipemic, hemolyzed, or icteric samples will be rejected.
