SPECIMEN COLLECTION
Specimen type: 

Plasma (preferred) or serum.


Preferred collection container: 
Alternate collection container: 
6 mL dark blue-top (trace element, no additive) tube
Specimen required: 

2 mL aliquot plasma (preferred) or serum in metal-free aliquot tube; minimum 0.7 mL.

SPECIMEN PROCESSING
Processing instructions: 

Allow serum to clot at room temperature. Centrifuge serum or plasma at 1000 g within 2 hours of collection. Transfer to metal-free aliquot tube available from Referred Tests. Pour plasma or serum into aliquot. Do not use plastic transfer pipettes!


Transport temperature: 

Refrigerated.


Specimen stability: 

Room Temperature: 5 days. Refrigerated: 10 days. Frozen: 30 days.


Rejection criteria: 

Hemolysis • Plasma or serum not separated from cells within 2 hours • Samples submitted in non-trace element or non-acid washed containers
