2 mL (min 1 mL) serum


Special notes: 

Care is required to avoid contamination of specimens with mold during collection, processing, and shipment.



SPECIMEN PROCESSING
Processing instructions: 

Serum should be collected in plastic serum separator tube (SST) and spun to separate from clot.


Transport temperature: 

Frozen.


Specimen stability: 

Room temperature: Unacceptable. Refrigerated: 5 days unopened. Frozen: >5 days unopened (-70ºC). Unopened serum may be stored 2-8 degrees C for up to 5 days before testing, or for only 48 hours after it has been opened. Longer storage requires freezing -70 degrees C.


Rejection criteria: 

Room temperature specimen. Stability limits exceeded.
