SPECIMEN COLLECTION
Specimen type: 

Serum


Preferred collection container: 
Specimen required: 

2 mL (min 1 mL) serum


Special notes: 

Spin SST tube but do not remove serum.  Do not open tube.  Care is required to avoid contamination of specimens with mold during collection, processing, and shipment.



SPECIMEN PROCESSING
Processing instructions: 

Serum should be collected in plastic serum separator tube (SST) and spun to separate from clot.


Transport temperature: 

Refrigerated.


Specimen stability: 

Room temperature: Unacceptable. Refrigerated: 5 days unopened. Frozen: 5 months unopened (-70ºC). Longer storage requires freezing -70 degrees C.


Rejection criteria: 

Room temperature specimen. Stability limits exceeded.
