SPECIMEN COLLECTION
Specimen type: 

Whole blood


Preferred collection container: 
Specimen required: 

4 mL EDTA whole blood in ascorbic acid container; minimum 1 mL.


Special notes: 

Minimum draw one 4 mL EDTA tube provided with kit. Transfer immediately to the plastic bottle containing 35 mg ascorbic acid (also provided with kit). Mix and freeze. Send frozen.


Patient preparation: 

Patient should avoid foods high in indoles: avocado, banana, tomato, plum, walnut, pineapple, and eggplant. Patient should also avoid tobacco, tea, and coffee for three (3) days before collection.



SPECIMEN PROCESSING
Processing instructions: 

Do not centrifuge. Do not aliquot.


Transport temperature: 

Frozen.


Specimen stability: 

Room Temperature: Unacceptable. Refrigerated: Unacceptable. Frozen: 6 Weeks


Rejection criteria: 

Specimen not shipped frozen.
