Result | Interpretation |
Negative | Absence of detectable Toxoplasma gondii IgG antibodies. A negative result does not rule out acute infection. The test usually scores negative in infected patients during the incubation period and early stages of infection. If exposure to Toxoplasma gondii is suspected despite a negative finding, a second sample should be collected and tested no less than one or two weeks later. |
Equivocal | Suggest a second sample be collected and tested one to two weeks later. |
Positive | Presence of detectable Toxoplasma gondii IgG antibodies. A positive result generally indicates either recent or past exposure to the pathogen. If IgG test scores positive in the presence of IgM antibodies, recent infection may be postulated. If IgG test scores positive in the absence of IgM antibodies, past infection may be postulated. |
NOTE: This test is for the qualitative determination of IgG antibodies to Toxoplasma gondii.
The CPT codes provided by GML are based on AMA guidelines and are for informational purposes only.
Antibody detection to Toxoplasma IgG.
Toxoplasma gondii IgG Ab, Toxoplasma IgG antibody, Toxoplasma Antibody IgG
This test is useful for determining if a patient has had recent or past exposure to Toxoplasma gondii. IgG antibodies to toxoplasma gondii is indicative of previous exposure (recent or past). A single positive result should not be used to diagnose recent infection.
