SPECIMEN COLLECTION
Specimen type: 

Serum (preferred) or CSF (acceptable but not the preferred specimen)


Preferred collection container: 
Alternate collection container: 
6 mL red-top (plain, non-serum separator) tube
Specimen required: 

2 mL serum (preferred) or CSF (also acceptable); minimum 0.5 mL.


Special notes: 

CSF (2 mL; minimum 0.5 mL) in sterile-leak-proof container is acceptable but is not the preferred specimen.



SPECIMEN PROCESSING
Processing instructions: 

Serum must be separated from cells within 48 hours of collection.


Transport temperature: 

Refrigerated.


Specimen stability: 

Room temperature: 72 hours. Refrigerated: 28 days. Frozen: 28 days.


Rejection criteria: 

Stability limits exceeded.

Clinical significance: 

Anti-Zic4 antibody is usually found in patients with paraneoplastic cerebellar degeneration and is associated with small cell lung carcinoma. This semi-quantitative assay may be useful in monitoring therapeutic responses in select cases.
