GESTATIONAL GLUCOSE TOLERANCE, 2 HOUR

1 mL aliquot for each time interval: minimum 0.2 mL
Specimens must be collected on a time schedule (FBS, 1-hour, and 2-hour). Place specimen on ice, or centrifuge and separate plasma from cells.
8 hour fasting is required. 75-g glucose tolerance test for women at 24 – 28 weeks of gestation not previously diagnosed with diabetes
Centrifuge to separate plasma within 2 hours of collection.
Refrigerated (preferred).
3 days (spun and unspun).
Stability limits exceeded.
Based on the 2011 guidelines from the American Diabetes Association, gestational diabetes mellitus is diagnosed when any of the following is met:
Fasting is greater than or equal to 92 mg/dL
1 hour is greater than or equal to 180 mg/dL
2 hour is greater than or equal to 153 mg/dL
