Lab personnel (to be determined per site) will test the pH of the urines and adjust to less than 3.0 using 6N HCl.

Clinical significance: 

Absorbed phosphate, under the influence of parathyroid hormone is readily excreted in the kidney. Measurement of urinary phosphorus generally reflects dietary intake hence day to day excretion may show considerable variation.
