SPECIMEN COLLECTION
Specimen type: 

Serum or plasma


Specimen required: 

2 mL of serum or plasma; minimum 0.5 mL


Special notes: 

Due to circadian variations of testosterone particularly in young males, an early morning specimen is preferred for men.



SPECIMEN PROCESSING
Processing instructions: 

Allow serum to clot. Centrifuge to separate serum or plasma within 2 hours of collection.


Transport temperature: 

Refrigerated (preferred) or frozen.


Specimen stability: 

Room temperature: 5 days. Refrigerated: 14 days. Frozen: 6 months.


Rejection criteria: 

Stability limits exceeded.
