SPECIMEN COLLECTION
Specimen type: 

Morning voided urine.


Preferred collection container: 
Alternate collection container: 
Saccomanno Preservative Container with pre-aliquoted preservative
Specimen required: 

Minimum 30 mL aliquot freshly voided urine labeled with patient name and medical record number.


Special notes: 

Add equal volume Saccomanno preservative to fresh urine. State "Urine for BK virus" on order/requisition.



SPECIMEN PROCESSING
Transport temperature: 

Room temperature if preserved with Saccomanno fixative.


Rejection criteria: 

Inadequate patient identifiers on specimen, unlabeled specimen, discrepancy between patient specimen and requisition information, improper collection.
