Clinical significance: 

IgA1 constitutes approximately 80% of the circulating IgA. IgA nephropathy is typically due to IgA1. IgA2 predominates in secretions of some mucosal surfaces. IgA2 concentrations may be useful as an index of mucosal pathology. Subclass deficiency is associated with anaphylactic transfusion reactions.
