CBC WITH WBC DIFFERENTIAL AND ANEMIA REFLEX WORKUP

SPECIMEN COLLECTION
Specimen type: 

Whole blood AND serum


Specimen required: 

3.5 mL gold-top (serum separator) tube AND a 2mL lavender-top (EDTA) tube


Special notes: 

Performed at GMC as a routine test. CBCD can be performed STAT at select locations. Please contact the laboratory for more information.



SPECIMEN PROCESSING
Processing instructions: 

Do not centrifuge lavender-top tube. Gold-top tube ONLY: Allow to clot. Centrifuge 10 minutes at 3000 rpm.


Transport temperature: 

Refrigerated (preferred) or room temperature.


Specimen stability: 

Lavender tube: Refrigerated 72 hours. Room temperature 24 hours. Blood smears should be made from lavender tube within 16 hours of collection. 
Gold top tube: Refrigerated 2 days.


Rejection criteria: 

Same criteria that apply to specific tests involved.
