Procalcitonin
PCT, PROCAL
Procalcitonin is secreted in response to proinflammatory stimulation, particularly bacterial stimulation. PCT can be an important marker enabling specific differentiation between bacterial infection and other causes of inflammatory reactions. It is useful for antibiotic stewardship.
