SPECIMEN COLLECTION
Specimen type: 

Whole blood preferred


Preferred collection container: 
Alternate collection container: 
3 mL green/black top lithium heparin tube
4 mL green/green-top (sodium heparin) tube
Specimen required: 

Preferred: Adult volume: 14 mL whole blood collected in an EDTA (lavender-top) tube: minimum 5 mL. Pediatric volumes: 0.1 year - 3mL; 1-5 years - 5 mL; 6-10 years - 7 mL; > 10 years - 14 mL.


Special notes: 

For Adult patients: If requesting more than one panel for HLA Transplant Testing, no more than 14 mL whole blood collected in an EDTA (lavender-top) tube is required. For Pediatric patients: If requesting more than one panel for HLA Transplant Testing, follow drawing instructions according to age as specified above. No more than what is specified by age is required.



SPECIMEN PROCESSING
Processing instructions: 

Samples cannot be shipped on Saturday or the day before holiday.


Transport temperature: 

Room temperature.


Specimen stability: 

Whole blood (preferred): Room temperature: 14 days. Refrigerated: Unacceptable. Frozen: Unacceptable.


Rejection criteria: 

Received frozen. Heparinized or citrated tubes.
