SPECIMEN COLLECTION
Specimen type: 

5 mL aliquot of random urine collection


Preferred collection container: 
Specimen required: 

5 mL random urine collected in a plastic 5 mL tube, minimum 4 mL.


Patient preparation: 

Patients taking aspirin or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID) may have decreased concentrations of prostaglandin F2 alpha. If possible, discontinue for 2 weeks or 72 hours, respectively, prior to collecting a specimen.



SPECIMEN PROCESSING
Processing instructions: 

Aliquot 5mL of urine. Freeze upon receipt of specimen. 


Transport temperature: 

Frozen.


Specimen stability: 

Room temperature: 8 hours. Refrigerated: 14 days. Frozen: 30 days.
