SPECIMEN COLLECTION
Specimen type: 

Plasma (preferred) or serum


Preferred collection container: 
Alternate collection container: 
6 mL dark blue-top (trace element, no additive) tube
Specimen required: 

2 mL plasma collected in an EDTA (blue-top) tube OR 1 mL serum collected in a no additive (blue-top) tube; minimum volume 0.6 mL


Special notes: 

All venipuncture should be performed using a trace metal-free blue-top tube. Do not collect in sodium fluoride/potassium oxalate) (gray-top) tube, polymer gel separation tube (SST® or PST), or EDTA (lavender-top) tube.



SPECIMEN PROCESSING
Processing instructions: 

Promptly centrifuge and separate serum or plasma into an acid-washed, metal-free, plastic screw-capped vial using approved guidelines.


Transport temperature: 

Refrigerated (cold packs).


Specimen stability: 

Room temperature: 30 days. Refrigerated: 30 days. Frozen: 30 days.


Rejection criteria: 

Sodium fluoride/potassium oxalate) (gray-top) tube • Polymer gel separation tube (SST® or PST) • EDTA (lavender-top) tube
