6 mL red-top (plain, non-serum separator) tube
Specimen required: 

2 mL serum; minimum 0.5 mL


Special notes: 

Avoid hemolysis.


Patient preparation: 

Fasting for at least 12 hours is required.

Processing instructions: 

Centrifuge and aliquot.


Transport temperature: 

Refrigerated (cold packs).


Specimen stability: 

Room temperature: 24 hours. Refrigerated: 20 days. Frozen: 180 days.


Rejection criteria: 

Glass tube • Plasma • Viscous fluids • Synovial • Joint • Knee • Pleural • Grossly and moderately hemolyzed serum samples
