Preferred collection container:

6 mL red-top (plain, non-serum separator) tube
Specimen required: 

1 mL aliquot of serum; minimum 0.3 mL. Minimum volume does now allow for repeat testing.



SPECIMEN PROCESSING
Processing instructions: 

Centrifuge within 1 hour of collection and transfer specimens to clean plastic vial.


Transport temperature: 

Refrigerated. Frozen specimen also acceptable.


Specimen stability: 

Room Temperature: 7 days. Refrigerated: 14 days. Frozen: 60 days.


Rejection criteria: 

Non-serum specimens • hemolysis • Bacterial contamination • Lipemic • Icteric

Clinical significance: 

The anti-PM/Scl-100 antibody is associated with younger age, calcinosis and has lower rates of gastrointestinal symptoms, ILD and pulmonary hypertension. There is also evidence of a possibly better survival compared to the presence of either anti-PM/Scl-75 or anti-Scl-70 antibodies.
