3 mL serum (preferred) or plasma; minimum 1.2 mL


Special notes: 

Do not collect in serum separator or polymer gel separation tube.



SPECIMEN PROCESSING
Processing instructions: 

Promptly centrifuge and separate serum or plasma into a plastic, screw-capped vial, using approved guidelines.


Transport temperature: 

Refrigerated.


Specimen stability: 

Room temperature: Not stable. Refrigerated: 30 days. Frozen: 90 days.


Rejection criteria: 

Serum Separator Tube (SST®). Polymer gel separation tube (PST). Received room temperature.

Clinical significance: 

Fluvoxamine (Luvox) is a drug that has been approved by the FDA for the treatment of obsessive-compulsive Disorders. It is a potent and selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor that has also shown effectiveness in treating depression and panic attacks. The FDA has initially approved its use for obsessive-compulsive disorders only.
