SPECIMEN COLLECTION
Specimen type: 

24-hour urine


Specimen required: 

5 mL aliquot of 24-hour urine, as above; minimum 5 mL


Special notes: 

Mix well. Estimate total collection volume from 24-hour urine container. Remove required aliquot. Record total volume on both aliquot tube and request slip (if applicable).



SPECIMEN PROCESSING
Transport temperature: 

Refrigerated (preferred). Room temperature or frozen specimen also acceptable.


Specimen stability: 

Room temperature: 2 days. Refrigerated: 6 days. Frozen: 6 months.


Rejection criteria: 

A complete 24-hour urine collection is required. Any other specimen is unacceptable.

Reference interval: 

Male 1-2 gm/24 hours. 
Female 0.8-1.8 gm/24 hours
