The presence of centromere B antibodies in correlation with clinical findings can aid in the diagnosis of systemic scleroderma, especially the limited cutaneous (CREST syndrome) manifestation. Centromere antibodies are found in 70-90% of patients with CREST syndrome, but may also be found in 10-20% of patients with Raynaud's phenomenon or primary biliary cirrhosis, and may also be positive in patients with SLE.
