SPECIMEN COLLECTION
Specimen type: 

Whole blood, buccal swab


Preferred collection container: 
Alternate collection container: 
6 mL pink-top K2 EDTA tube
ORA Collection OCDC-100 Collection Device
Specimen required: 

One 3 ml lavender-top K2 EDTA tube OR one 6 ml pink-top K2 EDTA tube OR buccal swab (contact the Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory for approval of this ample type). Extracted DNA is an acceptable specimen.


Special notes: 

Isolated/extracted nucleic acids are acceptable only from CLIA-certified laboratories or a laboratory meeting equivalent requirements as determined by CAP and/or CMS.

NO SHARED SPECIMENS.



SPECIMEN PROCESSING
Processing instructions: 

Mix well immediately. Send/deliver all collection tubes to GMC Molecular Diagnostic Lab. Store at 2-8°C. Do not centrifuge.


Transport temperature: 

Refrigerated, 2-8°C. Send to GMC Molecular Diagnostic Lab.


Specimen stability: 

Refrigerated, 7 days. Specimen must be extracted within 7 days. 


Rejection criteria: 

Wrong collection tube. Improper storage or transport temperature. Stability limits exceeded. Shared or comingled specimens.

Negative (no mutations detected).


Additional information: 

For molecular testing, the original tube is required.
