SPECIMEN COLLECTION
Specimen type: 

Serum (preferred) or plasma.


Preferred collection container: 
Alternate collection container: 
3 mL green/black top lithium heparin tube
3 mL lavender-top (K2 EDTA) tube
4 mL green/green-top (sodium heparin) tube
Specimen required: 

3 mL aliquot of serum (preferred) or plasma; minimum 1.5 mL.


Special notes: 

Do not collect specimen in serum separator tube (SST). Collect as a trough or at least 12 hours after last dose.


Patient preparation: 

Patient should be at least 12 hours post last dose.



SPECIMEN PROCESSING
Processing instructions: 

Allow serum to clot. Centrifuge serum or plasma 10 minutes at 3000 rpm.


Transport temperature: 

Room temperature (preferred). Refrigerated or frozen specimen also acceptable.


Specimen stability: 

Room Temperature: 5 days. Refrigerated: 5 days. Frozen: 1 month (-20ºC).


Rejection criteria: 

Gross hemolysis, gel barrier/serum separator tube (SST), stability limits exceeded.
