SPECIMEN COLLECTION

Serum or plasma


Preferred collection container: 
Alternate collection container: 
3 mL lavender-top (K2 EDTA) tube
6 mL pink-top K2 EDTA tube
Specimen required: 

4 mL aliquot of serum or plasma, minimum 0.5 mL.


Special notes: 

Serum or plasma separator tubes (SST or PST) not acceptable.



SPECIMEN PROCESSING
Processing instructions: 

Promptly centrifuge and separate serum or plasma into a plastic screw-cap vial.


Transport temperature: 

Room temperature.


Specimen stability: 

Room temperature: 14 days. Refrigerated: 30 days. Frozen: 6 months.


Rejection criteria: 

Specimen collected in gel separator tubes.
