SPECIMEN COLLECTION

Preferred collection container: 
Alternate collection container: 
3.5 mL gold-top (serum separator) tube
Specimen required: 

1 mL aliquot of serum; minimum 0.5 mL. Please submit a separate frozen aliquot for this test. It may not be combined with any other test requiring a frozen aliquot.


Special notes: 

Avoid hemolysis and lipemia.


Patient preparation: 

For optimal results, patient should fast overnight.



SPECIMEN PROCESSING
Processing instructions: 

Centrifuge within 1 hour of collection and transfer serum specimens to sterile, plastic, screw-capped vial(s). Transport frozen on dry ice. Samples may be thawed and refrozen up to 3X without affecting results.


Transport temperature: 

Frozen.


Specimen stability: 

Room Temperature: Unacceptable. Refrigerated: 24 hours. Frozen: 3 weeks (-20°).


Rejection criteria: 

Stability limits exceeded.
