SPECIMEN COLLECTION
Specimen type: 

Serum (preferred) or plasma


Preferred collection container: 
Alternate collection container: 
3 mL lavender-top (K2 EDTA) tube
4 mL green/green-top (sodium heparin) tube
Specimen required: 

1 mL aliquot of serum (preferred) or plasma; minimum 0.5 mL


Special notes: 

Do not collect in serum separator tube.



SPECIMEN PROCESSING
Processing instructions: 

Allow serum to clot. Centrifuge serum or plasma 10 minutes at 3000 rpm.


Transport temperature: 

Refrigerated.


Specimen stability: 

Room Temperature: 3 days. Refrigerated: 7 days. Frozen: 1 month.


Rejection criteria: 

Stability limits exceeded. Specimens collected in serum separator tubes unacceptable.

Critical values/courtesy alerts: 
Adult and pediatric potentially toxic values and/or potential side effects: > or = 100 mcg/mL.
Additional information: 

Detection limit 10 mcg/mL.
