SPECIMEN COLLECTION
Specimen type: 

Serum (preferred) or plasma.


Preferred collection container: 
Alternate collection container: 
3 mL lavender-top (K2 EDTA) tube
3.5 mL gold-top (serum separator) tube
Specimen required: 

0.5 mL aliquot serum or plasma; minimum 0.3 mL


Patient preparation: 

Overnight fasting is required.



SPECIMEN PROCESSING
Processing instructions: 

Centrifuge and transfer specimens to clean, plastic, screw-capped vial(s). Transport frozen.


Transport temperature: 

Refrigerated (preferred) or frozen.


Specimen stability: 

Room Temperature: 12 hours (unacceptable). Refrigerated: 7 days. Frozen: 28 days.


Rejection criteria: 

Stability limits exceeded. Room temperature specimen.
