SPECIMEN COLLECTION
Specimen type: 

Plasma or Serum


Specimen required: 

2 mL of serum or plasma; minimum 0.2 mL.


Special notes: 

DO NOT OPEN TUBE.



SPECIMEN PROCESSING
Processing instructions: 

Allow serum to clot. Centrifuge to separate serum or plasma within 2 hours of collection.


Transport temperature: 

Refrigerated.


Specimen stability: 

Recapped/capped and centrifuged specimens with gel separators are stable for 7 days refrigerated, 40 hours at room temperature. Specimens not centrifuged are stable for 16 hours.


Rejection criteria: 

Specimens beyond stability limits. Reject specimen if found uncapped for extended period of time. No add-ons to previously uncapped aliquot/short sample.

Reference interval: 

22-32 mmol/L


Additional information: 

Specimens for add-on testing are to be processed and taken immediately to a technologist for analysis.
