SPECIMEN COLLECTION
Specimen type: 

Plasma


Preferred collection container: 
Specimen required: 

1 mL aliquot of plasma in sterile plastic vial; minimum 0.5 mL. Please submit a separate frozen aliquot for this test. It may not be combined with any other test requiring a frozen aliquot.


Special notes: 

Dark-blue-top tubes with EDTA are not acceptable specimen types. Avoid hemolysis and lipemia.


Patient preparation: 

Overnight fasting is required.



SPECIMEN PROCESSING
Processing instructions: 

Centrifuge and immediately separate plasma specimens from the cells into clean, plastic, screw-capped vial. Each assay must have its own aliquot


Transport temperature: 

Frozen.


Specimen stability: 

Room Temperature: Unacceptable. Refrigerated: 8 days. Frozen: 3 months.


Rejection criteria: 

Hemolysis, lipemia, room temperature, or refrigerated specimen.
