SPECIMEN COLLECTION
Specimen type:

Preferred collection container: 
Alternate collection container: 
3.5 mL gold-top (serum separator) tube
Specimen required: 

1 mL aliquot serum; minimum 0.5 mL. Please submit a separate frozen aliquot for this test. It may not be combined with any other test requiring a frozen aliquot.


Patient preparation: 

Overnight fasting is required.



SPECIMEN PROCESSING
Processing instructions: 

Allow blood to fully clot (about 1/2 hour) at room temperature (20-25 degrees C). Centrifuge in a refrigerated centrifuge and separate immediately. Specimens collected in serum separation tubes should be removed from the gel after centrifugation.


Transport temperature: 

Frozen. Shipping room temperature is unacceptable.


Specimen stability: 

Room Temperature: 24 hours. Refrigerated: 3 days. Frozen: 3 months.


Rejection criteria: 

Received room temperature. Grossly lipemic serum. Grossly hemolyzed serum.
