SPECIMEN COLLECTION
Specimen type: 

Plasma


Preferred collection container: 
Specimen required: 

1 mL aliquot of plasma; minimum 0.6 mL. Please submit a separate frozen aliquot for this test. It may not be combined with any other test requiring a frozen aliquot.

SPECIMEN PROCESSING
Processing instructions: 

Centrifuge within one hour of collection. Immediately aliquot specimen into sterile plastic vial. Freeze. Do not thaw.


Transport temperature: 

Frozen.


Specimen stability: 

Room Temperature: 8 hours. Refrigerated: 24 hours. Frozen: 2 weeks.


Rejection criteria: 

Received room temperature • Received refrigerated • Gross hemolysis • Icterus • Lipemia • Heparin • Hirudin • Paraproteins • Uremia and increased levels of fibrinogen degradation products

Clinical significance: 

Inhibits the action of plasmin. Inherited deficiency may lead to bruising and bleeding. The test may also be useful in monitoring substitution therapy.
