SPECIMEN COLLECTION
Specimen type: 

Whole blood


Preferred collection container: 
Specimen required: 

4 mL whole blood; minimum 2 mL.


Special notes: 

To avoid contamination, use powderless gloves.


Patient preparation: 

Patient should refrain from eating predatory fish such as swordfish, tuna, and shark at least 3 days before specimen collection.



SPECIMEN PROCESSING
Processing instructions: 

Do not centrifuge or aliquot.


Transport temperature: 

Refrigerated (preferred) or room temperature.


Specimen stability: 

Room Temperature: 5 days. Refrigerated: 7 days. Frozen: Unacceptable.


Rejection criteria: 

Frozen specimens. Stability limits exceeded.
