Specimen type:
Serum (preferred) or plasma

3 mL green/black top lithium heparin tube
4 mL green/green-top (sodium heparin) tube
Specimen required:
1 mL aliquot of serum or plasma; minimum 1 mL.
Special notes:
Do not use gel barrier tubes.
Patient preparation:
Draw sample two hours after last dose at steady state.
SPECIMEN PROCESSING
Processing instructions:
Centrifuge blood at 15-30 degrees C and 2000-2200 rpm (800-1000 x g) for 5-6 minutes. Separate plasma from cells as soon as possible. Pipette or pour plasma into polypropylene or polyethylene tubes.
Transport temperature:
Refrigerated (preferred). Room temperature or frozen specimens also acceptable.
Specimen stability:
Room Temperature: 5 days. Refrigerated: 12 days. Frozen: 30 days.
Rejection criteria:
Stability limits exceeded. Specimen collected in gel barrier tube.
