SPECIMEN COLLECTION
Specimen type: 

Serum


Preferred collection container: 
Alternate collection container: 
Gold-top (serum separator) microcollection tube
6 mL red-top (plain, non-serum separator) tube
Specimen required: 

2 mL aliquot serum; minimum 1 mL


Special notes: 

Either serum separator tube (SST) or plain red-top tube acceptable. If collecting specimen in microcollection tubes, collect 5 FULL serum separator microcollection tubes.



SPECIMEN PROCESSING
Processing instructions: 

Allow serum to clot. Centrifuge to separate serum within 2 hours of collection.


Transport temperature: 

Refrigerated.


Specimen stability: 

Refrigerated 5 days. Frozen: 3 months.


Rejection criteria: 

Hemolysis, lipemia, severe icteremia, stability exceeded. Add-ons available only to unopened tube.
