Preferred collection container: 
Specimen required: 

0.5 mL aliquot of serum; minimum 0.3 mL.


Special notes: 

Serum separator tubes (SSTs) are not acceptable.


Patient preparation: 

Overnight fasting is preferred.



SPECIMEN PROCESSING
Processing instructions: 

Allow to clot. Centrifuge for 10 minutes at 3000 rpm. Aliquot and freeze.


Transport temperature: 

Frozen.


Specimen stability: 

Room Temperature: 6 hours. Refrigerated: 72 hours. Frozen: 90 days.


Rejection criteria: 

Serum separator tubes unacceptable. Received room temperature. Stability limits exceeded.
