Processing instructions:
Allow to clot. Centrifuge and submit 0.5 mL serum.
Transport temperature:
Refrigerated (preferred). Room temperature specimens stable only 8 hours. Frozen samples are also acceptable.
Specimen stability:
Room temperature: 8 hours. 2-8°C: 48 hours. Frozen: 6 months.
Rejection criteria:
Specimen stability exceeded; specimen grossly hemolyzed.

Clinical significance:
A positive CCP antibody, when used in conjunction with other laboratory tests and clinical findings, is an aid in the diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis. Measurement of both anti-CCP and Rheumatoid Factor are recommended for initial evaluation of potential RA.
