SPECIMEN COLLECTION
Specimen type: 

Esophageal, GE junction, duodenal, gastric or bile duct brushings


Preferred collection container: 
Alternate collection container: 
Glass Slides
Specimen required: 

Brush tip, submitted in RPMI is preferred.  Glass slides are acceptable, but not preferred.



SPECIMEN PROCESSING
Processing instructions: 

Label slides with two patient identifiers. Obtain gastric brushing and roll/smear brush on slides. Fix slides in 95% ethanol.


Transport temperature: 

Glass slides: Room temperature. RPMI: Refrigerated.


Rejection criteria: 

Inadequate patient identifiers on specimen, unlabeled specimen, discrepancy between patient specimen and requisition information, improper collection.
