3 mL lavender-top (K2 EDTA) tube
Specimen required: 

5 mL EDTA whole blood; minimum 1 mL.

Processing instructions: 

Do not centrifuge.


Transport temperature: 

Room temperature.


Specimen stability: 

Room temperature: 5 days. Refrigerated: 7 days. Frozen: Unacceptable.


Rejection criteria: 

Stability limits exceeded. Hemolysis. Clotted specimen



TEST DETAILS
Additional information: 

Fetal hemoglobin is increased in sickle cell anemia, leukemias, beta-thalassemia and hereditary persistence of fetal hemoglobin. The production of fetal hemoglobin may be triggered as a response to sickle crisis.
